Marcel Sabitzer’s 21-minute brace helped RB Leipzig knock Tottenham out of the Champions League. The Austrian was in fine form last night but Arsenal fans seemed very impressed with his young teammate.
Dayot Upamecano has been on Arsenal’s radar for a while now and the Frenchman was brilliant against Spurs. The Mirror claimed that Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing him in the summer transfer window.
If last night’s performance doesn’t force Mikel Arteta’s side to splash the cash for him, nothing will. Upamecano looked incredibly assured on the pitch despite only being 21 years old.
The Frenchman maintained an impressive 86% passing accuracy while completing 100% of his dribbles. He made five clearances, six tackles and won 10 out of his 15 overall duels. (SofaScore)
If it wasn’t for Sabitzer’s match-winning display at the other end, Upamecano would have caught the attention of the world even more than he did and Arsenal fans couldn’t help but to pray for Arteta to sign him in the summer.
Upamecano will only have a year left on his contract in the summer. The Frenchman is likely to attract a number of big clubs but if Arsenal want to make a statement in the transfer market, he is the player to sign.
Kicker claimed that the 21-year-old’s release clause will drop down to £52.3 million (€60m) in the summer. That is a huge fee for someone so young but he has all the traits to be one of the best in the world in the coming years.
Arsenal fans were in awe of his performance against our London rivals last night and a few of them urged Arteta to sign him in the summer window.
Here are a few reactions from Twitter:
After Yesterday, I think there should be no doubt that @Arsenal should do everything on their power to secure Dayot Upamecano. Best partner for Saliba and a duo that can hold the Gunners’ back line for the next decade. pic.twitter.com/REuZHXGacq

Dayot #Upamecano is a beast.
Assertive, comfortable on the ball and a real presence at the back. Impressed any time I have watched him. Needs to be top of our transfer targets in the summer. Make. It. Happen. @m8arteta #Arsenal
