Mikel Arteta has a lot to think about in terms of transfers this month. The January window is never easy for any club but Arsenal have pulled off a few brilliant signings in this period.
The new Arsenal boss has no experience when it comes to signing players. Maybe this list gives him a bit of inspiration?
Here are our top-five Arsenal signings in the January transfer window since 2004:
5. Jose Antonio Reyes:
The late, great Spaniard joined us in January 2004 and helped us become Invincibles. Reyes played 110 times for us in his 18-month stay and directly contributed to 48 goals in all competitions.
His clever runs, quick feet and a wand of a left foot was a treat to watch and that will forever stay in our memories.
4. Nacho Monreal:
Arguably the most underrated defender in the Premier League during his six-and-a-half-year stay at the Emirates. Nacho Monreal joined us in January 2013 and went on to make 251 appearances in all competitions.
‘La Cabra’ as he was fondly called, Monreal was one of Arsenal’s most consistent players in the last decade. The Spaniard was incredibly hard-working, a real leader and a gem of a full-back who helped us win three FA Cups and as many Community Shields in four years.
3. Emmanuel Adebayor:
A pain to watch at times but truly brilliant on his day. Emmanuel Adebayor joined us from Monaco in January 2006 and played 142 times for us in all competitions. The Togolese international scored 62 times for us, including a few brilliant ones against Tottenham.
His departure to Manchester City in 2009 and everything that followed after that is a real shame. He could have been a real hero had he stayed on but what goes around comes around and he’s without a club at the moment.
2. Theo Walcott:
Signed from Southampton as a teenager back in the same window as Adebayor, Theo Walcott was expected to be our new Thierry Henry. Sadly, the Englishman never quite fulfilled his potential but he will still go down as an Arsenal great.
Walcott scored 108 goals and provided 78 assists in all competitions in close to 400 appearances. That is a phenomenal record considering that a majority of those goals came from when he played out wide.
1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:
Arsenal’s club-record signing at the time, Aubameyang has been with us for just under two years now. However, his impact has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Auba has played 90 games for us so far and has scored 56 goals while chipping in with 13 assists. Since he joined us in 2018, no player in the Premier League has scored more goals than him, which is mental considering the quality attackers present in other teams.
Andrey Arshavin and Emmanuel Eboue:
Because you can’t not love them.
