According to a report from Le10 Sport, Arsenal had a bid rejected by Lille for their star defender Gabriel last month.
The report claims that the Gunners were joined by Everton in the pursuit of the Brazilian centre-half. Both clubs made multiple offers for Gabriel but failed to match Lille’s valuation and the deal thus failed to go through.
Still only 22, Gabriel has made himself a good name in Ligue 1. The Brazilian has become an integral part of Lille’s first team since February last year. His performances helped the club finish second last season and if things go their way, they could do the same again this term.
Nicolas Pepe knows Gabriel very well having played together for a whole year. Arsenal’s relationship with Lille is also positive after securing a deal for the Ivorian last summer and there is a good chance that a deal for the Brazilian could happen in about six months time.
The Gunners signed Flamengo’s Pablo Mari on loan until the end of the season. Arsenal were adamant for it to be a loan deal despite the Spaniard being available for a relatively low fee.
That could be because we want to have another go at signing Gabriel this summer. The Brazilian would be a very good signing considering his age and potential. Arteta would certainly love a player of his profile and a deal is a huge possibility in the summer.
