According to a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal’s move for Flamengo’s Pablo Mari is on the verge of collapsing.
The report claims that Mari is on a flight back less than 72 hours after he landed in London. Arsenal are said to have changed the terms of the transfer in the last minute which seems to have irked Flamengo.
Mari has reportedly completed his medical and despite the fact that he is on the way back to Brazil, the two clubs are still in talks. The report says that Edu had agreed on a loan move with an option to buy him for £7.5 million.
However, Arsenal are said to have moved the goalposts and an unnamed Flamengo director has slammed the Gunners’ move.
He said: “We expect him at Ninho do Urubu this afternoon (to start pre-season). We had agreed to sell him for a fee, he arrived in London, Arsenal changed (the terms). Flamengo is a serious club.”
A £7.5 million deal is peanuts for Arsenal and the fact that our approach has put the move on the line is bad news for the fans.
Arsenal desperately need a new defender this month and if it isn’t Mari, it has to be someone else. A little under five days are left in the transfer window and the fate of our season could well be determined before the end of this month.
