According to a report from BILD, Arsenal’s Konstantinos Mavropanos is close to joining Nurnberg on loan in the coming days.

The Greek defender is well down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and a loan move will certainly help him. Nurnberg, a historic German side, have fallen badly in recent years.

They are currently 16th in Bundesliga 2 and are at the risk of dropping down to the third tier. Signing Mavropanos will add a bit of solidity to Nurnberg but are they the club he should be joining at this stage of his career?

The report claims that Mavropanos has attracted interest from Bremen and Düsseldorf, both top-flight clubs. Hannover and Stuttgart, who are above Nurnberg in the second division are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old.

The Greek centre-half is expected to have a medical at Nurnberg on Monday to complete his move. Arsenal have rejected any option for the Germans to buy Mavropanos at the end of the season which shows that Edu and co still have faith in him.

Mavropanos needs to be competing at the top level to reach the quality required at Arsenal. At Nurnberg, he will possibly get more game time than elsewhere but considering the quality of the side, his development could be hampered.

The youngster risks the possibility of quickly becoming unwanted at Arsenal. William Saliba will join us in the summer which pushes the Greek further down in the pecking order. Mavropanos has to get this loan move right to have any future at Arsenal. Else, he could be off in the summer.
