Sky Sports reported earlier today that Ivory Coast international Nicolas Pepe is set for a medical ahead of a club-record £72 million switch from Lille to Arsenal.

Pepe was arguably the most sought out wingers in Europe and was linked to a whole host of top clubs. However, Arsenal have leapfrogged a number of sides to secure his signature and this has raised the spirits around the Emirates.

Pepe was one of the best players in France last season as he contributed to 23 goals and 12 assists. His performances helped Lille return to the Champions League and skipper Jose Fonte delivered a positive verdict on the Ivorian.

Fonte spoke to TalkSport in an exclusive interview and said: “He’s incredible. If he can reach the same level that he did last year in Lille, which I believe he will, I think Arsenal fans will be very happy. He’s super quick, his left foot is silky, his 1v1 is second to none. He finishes really good, he takes penalties and free kicks. He’s a very accomplished player and I think Arsenal fans will be in for a treat.”

The Gunners have massively lacked width over the last two years and Pepe would certainly be a dream signing. The Ivorian has all the traits in him to be one of the best wide players in world football and a front three of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and himself would arguably be the best in the league.
