Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown spoke to TalkSport about Arsenal’s defensive issues and labelled one player as the biggest culprit.
The Gunners dropped points yet again, this time against Brighton and Hove Albion at home. Defensive mistakes cost us yet again and Keown seems to have figured out who the biggest problem is.
“Now you’ve got players available, you’ve got to coach them, train them, nurture them. If they’ve not got it in their nature, nurture them to do what you want them to do. I would pull David Luiz to one side and say ‘I’m just going to sit you out’”, he said.
“He seems to be the biggest culprit for wanting to shrink away and drop off. They’ve lost the basics. I might just play Chambers and Sokratis and say ‘I want you guys to play further up the pitch’.”
Luiz was definitely at fault for the second goal but the problems go way beyond him. The Gunners’ organisation at the back has been poor and Sokratis, like the Brazilian, has been at fault on more than one occasion.
Chambers, mainly used at right-back this season, deserves a go in the heart of the defence. Rob Holding should also be in contention after coming back from a long-term injury but the duo will certainly not solve all of Arsenal’s problems.
Times have been hard and the uncertainty over who the manager will be could be playing on the players’ minds. Arsenal need to make a decision to quick and they cannot afford to get it wrong again this time.
