Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke to Football.London after his first game in charge of the club against Bournemouth.

The Gunners started the game brilliantly and dominated from start to finish. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal squared things up and Arsenal picked up a good point against a tricky side. Arteta has a lot of positives to take from the game but Mesut Ozil’s performance could be the biggest.

The German has always had his critics, especially in away games. Arteta trusted his former teammate and started him and Ozil repaid it with arguably his best performance of the season.

Speaking about Ozil, Arteta said: “To be fair, his attitude in training since the day that I walked in the building has been incredible. I’ve seen this and I said I would give a clean slate to everybody and that was for him too.”

He continued: “When we were preparing and watching where we could hurt the opponent, we believed he could be a key point. Like this, he responded, did what he had to do and we could have put two or three goals in the net because of him.”

Best creative performance of the season?

Ozil created four chances in the game today, the most by any Arsenal player in a single game this season. His movement was brilliant and his vision, like always, was top-notch. The Gunners could well have scored a couple more goals through his service but sadly, it wasn’t to be.

With a massive game against Chelsea coming up on Sunday, Arteta could not have asked for a better first performance. Arsenal should go into the game against the Blues full of confidence and if first impressions are anything to go by, we are on the right path.
