According to a report from AS, Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette wants to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Frenchman has been with us since the summer of 2017 but has failed to replicate his previous form. Lacazette has played 127 times for Arsenal in all competitions so far, scoring 48 goals and providing 27 assists.
75 direct goal contributions in three seasons isn’t a terrible record but he has the quality to be much better. Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of the former Lyon man but Arsenal are prepared to let him leave for £40 million in order to raise funds to secure their other targets. (ESPN)
Lacazette was an integral part of Arteta’s side in the final few games of the season. His work-rate and ability to drop deep to link-up play is extremely valuable to our style of play, but with just two years left on his contract, a decision has to be made regarding his future.
The report claims that Atletico Madrid are Lacazette’s preferred destination if he was to leave Arsenal. Diego Simeone’s side are huge fans of the Frenchman having followed his career even before he joined the Gunners three years ago.
AS further go on to say that Lacazette wants to join the Spanish giants ‘as soon as possible’. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. The Frenchman could be a very important player for us next season, but if his sale is the only way we can secure our top targets, it has to be done.
